According to CCTV News, citing local Ugandan media reports, hackers recently hacked into third-party mobile payment systems used by Uganda’s MTN and Airtel Communications. Sources said the hackers took away billions of shillings from the two companies. Capital (Note: 1 Ugandan shilling = 0.001840 RMB).
The loss-affected telecommunications company issued a joint statement stating that the incident had affected the bank’s transactions with mobile money. Related services have been suspended and they will repair it as soon as possible.
Naijatechnews learned that the communications company said it would not disclose the related losses for the time being. CCTV News pointed out that the two companies that were hacked accounted for 90% of Uganda’s mobile payments.
