Although Tesla’s Berlin factory is still under construction, the electric car manufacturer seems to be looking to expand its business in Germany. According to insiders familiar with Tesla’s plan, the company intends to purchase an additional 12 hectares of land in the Glenheide area, which is close to the Berlin factory .
According to people familiar with the matter, the new plot is located in the GVZ Berlin Ost Freienbrink Industrial Park in Berlin. Tesla did not disclose how it intends to use the new plot, although speculation suggests that the company will use it as a possible logistics area. In addition, the purchase contract for this 12 hectares of land is basically in place.
Neither Tesla nor Leg Brandenburg, who was responsible for the sale of the land, commented on the acquisition. The contract price of this land is currently unclear, but considering that Freienbrink’s standard land price is 40 Euros (approximately US$47) per square meter, this land may be worth at least 4.8 million Euros (approximately US$5.69 million).
Thanks to the use of prefab construction technology by Tesla and its construction partners, it is expected that the Berlin factory will be built at an incredible speed. This strategy enabled the electric car manufacturer to complete the factory housing for the drive unit building of the Berlin factory in just a few months. Large painting workshops are gradually taking shape, and recent pictures show that the building is very tall.
Elon Musk has issued a public invitation to those interested in working in the Berlin factory. The upcoming hiring frenzy should bring Tesla into focus again, especially considering its plans to launch unique projects in Germany. These include the redesign of Model Y and the introduction of a new paint shop, which will pave the way for new color choices.
Musk pointed out that some of these updates will be discussed in the upcoming “Battery Day” event. He said: “Like I said, we built the factory, and then we will do a series of innovative things here. We will not only copy Model Y here, but will actually completely redesign the core technology of car building. .”
