Mercedes-AMG released a new entry-level GT sports car, the AMG GT 43. The car bid farewell to the V8 engine and replaced it with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The AMG GT, the first in history to be equipped with a four-cylinder engine, is positioned as a “pure driver’s car.” Despite the reduction in power, Mercedes still describes it as a car with “agile cornering capabilities, extremely dynamic handling and sheer driving fun”, thanks mainly to the lighter engine weight and rear wheels. Hidden under the long engine hood is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder power unit with a smaller displacement, matched with an AMG electric exhaust turbocharger derived from F1 racing technology and a 48V mild hybrid system. The transmission system uses a 9-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which is responsible for transmitting power to the rear wheels.
The engine itself can produce a maximum power of 310 kW and a peak torque of 500 Nm, and the electric motor can provide an additional 10 kW of power support in a short period of time. This gives the AMG GT 43 an extra 30kW of output over the mechanically similar SL 43 roadster, but 40kW less than the V8 version of the GT 53.
According to Mercedes, the AMG GT 43 can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 280 km/h. It is worth noting that this acceleration result is 0.7 seconds slower than the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S, which also has 416 horsepower but uses all-wheel drive.
In order for consumers to easily distinguish the GT 43 from the V8 versions of the GT 53 and 63, Mercedes designed a unique appearance for it. The redesigned front bumper eliminates the grille extension and replaces it with a larger air intake. The front and rear fenders are also slimmer, paired with smaller side fenders. The rear bumper adopts a simpler design, canceling the vertical exhaust outlets and replacing them with four round exhaust pipes (replacing the trapezoidal exhaust pipes).

The more advanced AMG Ride Control suspension system and rear-wheel steering are optional.
