Apple plans to change “Apple ID” to “Apple Account” this year

Gurman said in his Power On newsletter today that the new “Apple Account” name will be enabled later this year on the web and in Apple’s upcoming major software updates, such as iOS 18 for iPhone and Apple Watch. watchOS 11.

Apple has previously referred to funds added to an Apple ID as “Apple Account Balance,” and Gurman also mentioned the existence of an “Apple Account” team within Apple. The term “Apple ID”, which has been used for more than 20 years, is expected to be phased out later this year as the name change is completed. It’s unclear why Apple made this decision, but “Apple Account” is apparently easier to understand.

Apple will release iOS 18 and other important software updates at the WWDC Developer Conference in June. At that time, the “Apple Account” renaming plan may be officially announced, and the new system update is expected to be launched on a large scale in September push.
