On September 27th, according to foreign media reports, the lunar landers of American space exploration technology companies SpaceX, Blue Origin and Dynetics have passed NASA’s review .
Completing the “certification benchmark review” of the proposed lunar lander by Blue Origin, Dynetics and SpaceX is an important step for the Human Landing System (HLS) and Artemis projects.
It is reported that NASA’s Artemis project aims to return astronauts to the moon by 2024, and the lunar lander is a key part of the project. The lander will carry two astronauts (one of whom is a woman) to the moon.
This week, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said that its Artemis project plan requires $28 billion in funding, of which $16 billion will be used to build the lunar module.
It is reported that NASA awarded the lunar lander contract to three competitors, namely SpaceX, Blue Origin and Dynetics, with a total contract value of US$967 million.
Among them, the National Team led by Blue Origin received US$567 million, SpaceX received US$135 million in funding for the research and development of a single-stage vehicle derived from its “starship”, and Dynetics received US$253 million in funding.
In August of this year, the National Team delivered a lunar lander model to NASA for testing by engineers and astronauts.
On Saturday, local time, foreign media reported that an improved version of SpaceX’s “Starship” has passed NASA’s first review.
