Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Series price and review. Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch 5 smartwatches have improved health tracking and tougher glass displays. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and Galaxy Watch 5 were announced by Samsung on August 10, 2022. The wearables succeed the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and Galaxy Watch 4 from 2021, respectively. With a slightly refreshed design and bigger batteries, the two wearables further push the boundaries of Samsung’s smartwatch lineup.
Last year, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 featured two designs — a standard, sporty-looking model and a Classic version with a physical bezel — plus a non-invasive body composition analysis sensor. It also became the first smartwatch to run Wear OS 3, a unified platform that integrates a selection of Google programs with the familiar Samsung apps.
Now that it’s official, here’s everything there is to know about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Price
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 price starts at $279 and 200,000 Naira in Nigeria for the 40mm Bluetooth model. The 40mm LTE model starts at $329 and 235,000 Naira in Nigeria. The price goes up to $299 (215,000 Naira in Nigeria) and $349 (255,000 Naira in Nigeria) for the 44mm configurations for Bluetooth and LTE, respectively.
You might recall the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 started at $249. All configurations of the Galaxy Watch 5 cost about $30 more than last year. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro costs $449 for Bluetooth and $499 for LTE. It comes in only the 45mm size.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Design
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 design doesn’t bring many changes, especially not to the entry-level, sporty-looking model. You probably couldn’t tell the difference between the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 at a glance.
But a big change from the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 vs. Galaxy Watch 4 Classic —there’s no rotating bezel found in the Galaxy Watch 5 lineup. The rotating bezel is celebrated as a fan-favorite mechanism, which is why the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will remain on sale.
The Galaxy Watch 5’s reshaped curvature on the bottom offers more surface area for watch-to-skin contact. This should improve the accuracy of data collected from the biometric sensor. The watch remains water resistant up to 5ATM with an IP68 rating. The display is made of sapphire crystal glass, which Samsung says is stronger against scratches by 60% more than on last year’s watch.
There are four Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 colors to choose from Graphite, Silver, Sapphire (44mm only), and Pink Gold (40mm only). It comes with silicone straps but Samsung sells a number of interchangeable bands.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Vs. Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
There are key differences between the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 vs. Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Though both models could become two of the best smartwatches of the year, there are some specs that might make one better for you than the other.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is considered the company’s smartwatch flagship. But the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is an all-new model looking to cut into Garmin’s market with 80-hour battery life, ultra-durable design, and outdoor sports-specific features. These perks come at a price — the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro starts at $449.
Essentially, the Galaxy Watch 5 is going to be the smartwatch for most Samsung users. But if you’re dabbling in outdoor activities, or are willing to splurge on battery life, there’s a good reason to consider the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Not to mention, the titanium chassis and raised edge offers a premium look.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Skin Temperature Sensor
The most notable new internal Galaxy Watch 5 feature is the addition of a temperature analysis sensor, which appears to exist separately from Samsung’s 3-in-1 BioActive sensor. Debuted last year, the BioActive sensor reads heart rate, SpO2, and body composition via BIA (bioelectrical impedance analysis.) The skin-temperature reader sits slightly off-center on the bottom of the Galaxy Watch’s case.
From what we’ve heard, it doesn’t appear the skin-temperature reader will be functional at launch. Samsung also hasn’t clarified what skin-temperature readings will be used for — for example, in wearables like the Fitbit Sense and the Oura Ring Generation 3, it informs sleep-tracking data. Stay tuned for more details.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Battery Life
The Galaxy Watch 5 has a 15% bigger battery than the Galaxy Watch 4, with up to 50 hours of battery life. That’s about 10 more hours than before. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is rated for up to 80 hours, or double that of the Galaxy Watch 4.
In testing, we usually find that features like always-on display (AOD) and a few hours of GPS use or fitness tracking bring the battery life down. But specifically for the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, we’ll hope to see real improvements in testing, because the last thing you want on your adventure is for your watch to lose juice.
How Is The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Different From The Watch 4?
Like the Apple Watch, Samsung is emphasizing the Galaxy Watch’s health and fitness attributes. There’s a wealth of wellness-tracking insights and compatibility with Samsung’s online fitness program.
In a lot of ways, the Galaxy Watch 5 looks like its predecessor. Indeed, functionality and features like the processor, operating system, memory, sensors, and storage remain consistent. But Samsung says health metrics are more accurate than the Watch 4 due to a greater surface coverage area that allows for more contact with the skin, and the addition of a new temperature sensor.
The Galaxy Watch 5’s battery is also 13% larger and charges faster than the Watch 4 (410 mAh for the 44mm and 284 mAh for the 40mm). Samsung says it’s also its first smartwatch to use a Sapphire Crystal display with a 60% harder layer.
The Watch 5 Pro model takes things further with an all-around more rugged build. In addition to the Sapphire Crystal display, it has a titanium casing with a protruded bezel for extra protection and a D-Buckle Sport Band for durability. The watch is also larger, which allows for a larger batter (590mAh) but it could turn away users with smaller wrists. All these features are designed for the outdoor enthusiast, whether it be hiking or biking.
