Microsoft released the KB5030211 update to Windows 10 LTSC on the Patch Tuesday event day in September 2023, which introduced the “Windows Backup” application. However, it was strongly complained by users because it could not be uninstalled.
According to testing last year by foreign technology media Windows Latest, Microsoft does not support Windows 10 users to uninstall the application, and the application cannot be hidden on unsupported machines.
On unsupported PCs, if the user opens the “Windows Backup” application, an error message “Your organization does not support this feature” will be displayed.
Microsoft said at the time that “Windows Backup” would only work when using a personal Microsoft account (such as an address ending in *@outlook.com) .
Microsoft released an update in March this year that can hide the “Windows Backup” application on unsupported PCs and no longer appear in the “All Apps” and “Installed Apps” sections in the Start menu and Settings application. But uninstallation is still not supported.
Microsoft says the “Windows Backup” app is currently a “system component” and will remain part of the operating system, and cannot be uninstalled from PCs that don’t support it.
However, there are many solutions. Users can use PowerShell commands to remove software packages from their computers:
1. Open PowerShell with administrator rights
2. Run the following command
Remove - WindowsPackage - Online - PackageName " Microsoft - Windows - UserExperience - Desktop - Package ~ 31bf3856ad364e35 ~ 64 ~ ~ 10.0 . 19041.3393 "
3. Restart the computer and delete the “Windows Backup” application
