“Swipe up” to do this, to do that, chances are you’ve seen this message a couple of times on many Instagram stories if you use the platform very well. In a notification viewed by TheVerge, Instagram confirmed it is retiring the swipe feature and will be replacing it with link stickers.
With link stickers, creators have more flexibility. Instagram says this will allow it to “streamline the stories creation experience” and give more “creative control” to creators since stickers can be formatted in various ways. Unlike the swipe up, users will be able to reply to link stickers in stories and it will be tappable.
For now, only verified accounts or accounts with at least 10,000 followers have access to swipe up. Instagram says only accounts that were able to use swipe up will have access to the new link stickers update. Instagram began testing the feature in June and says it is “still evaluating” if the link stickers should be rolled out to other users who do not have the swipe up privilege.
This link stickers update will “help us determine whether it’s the right decision before expanding access to more people,” a spokesperson confirms to TheVerge.
