Foreign media mspoweruser reported that Facebook released their latest Facebook Gaming application on iOS devices, but there is an important warning: there are no games in it.
After Google Stadia and Microsoft Project xCloud cloud gaming services were banned from selling on the App Store due to Apple’s outdated policies, Facebook Gaming revealed the reasons why it has been unable to log in to Apple products.
Although it is mainly live broadcast services like Twitch or Mixer (which has been cut by Microsoft), Facebook Gaming contains mini games for users to play. Previously, Facebook Gaming has launched Android mobile devices.
After Facebook received Apple’s rejection letter for months, these mini games have been deleted from the iPhone and iPad versions.
Facebook said, “Unfortunately, in order to get Apple’s approval on the standalone Facebook game app, we had to completely remove the game features – which means that iOS users have a worse experience than Android users.”
“We will continue to focus on building a community for the more than 380 million people who play games on Facebook every month – regardless of whether Apple allows it to be used in standalone apps.”
IT Home learned that the reason this app was rejected by iOS was because of App Store Guideline 4.7, which stated that the main purpose of the service is to release games to be able to play. Although Facebook provided evidence that only 5% of user activity was spent on gaming services, Apple refused to give in.
This is not the first time Facebook has been forced to downplay games on its iOS service. According to Facebook game director Vivek Sharma, Apple has seen issues with Facebook’s core applications including mini games.
“Even on the main Facebook app and Messenger, we were forced to bury Instant Games on iOS for many years,” Sharma said. “This is the common pain of the entire game industry, which ultimately hurts players and developers, and severely hinders the innovation of other types of formats on the mobile terminal, such as cloud games.”
