According to foreign media reports, Ericsson has signed 118 5G commercial agreements or contracts so far.
5G technology is the next generation of cellular technology, and the download speed is said to be 10 to 100 times faster than the current 4G LTE network. In addition to faster data download and upload speeds, the technology is expected to cover wider coverage and more stable connections.
It is reported that the technology was first commercialized in South Korea in April 2019. Since then, the technology has been launched in 26 countries, adding nearly 190 million new users, most of which are from China.
Earlier, Ericsson released the “Ericsson Mobile Market Report.” In the report, the company predicts that by the end of 2020, 5G networks will cover more than 1 billion people worldwide. Driven by the faster-than-expected growth of 5G users in China, by the end of this year, the number of active 5G subscribers will reach 220 million, of which only 150 million will use 5G-enabled devices.
The company also predicts that in 2026, the number of 5G subscriptions will reach 3.5 billion, accounting for 40% of all mobile users, and 5G networks will cover 60% of the world’s population.
In addition, the company estimates that by 2026, 5G will carry more than 50% of the world’s mobile data traffic, but this does not include traffic from fixed wireless access (FWA).
