Apple issued a statement today in response to the latest allegations made by game developer Epic Games. Apple said that the problem was caused by Epic, and it is easy to remedy it.
You only need to submit an app update to comply with App Store guidelines. Apple will not make an exception for Epic . Previously, the Epic game “Fortress Night” was taken down by Apple for using its own payment service because it violated the App Store in-app purchase policy.
The following is the full text of Apple’s statement:
App Store aims to be a safe and reliable platform for users, creating major business opportunities for all developers. Epic has always been one of the most successful developers on the App Store platform and has grown into a multi-billion dollar business that can reach millions of iOS customers worldwide.
We very much hope to continue to make Epic part of Apple’s developer program and keep their apps in the App Store. This problem that Epic created for itself can be easily remedied as long as they submit an app update and re-adhere to the guidelines they agree and apply to all developers. We will not make an exception for Epic because we do not think it is correct to put their business interests above the guidelines to protect our customers.
