What is nixCraft?
nixCraft is a site, blog, forum, and social media account that helps new and seasoned Linux and Unix/*BSD sysadmins/developers who want to make the most of the sysadmin-hood. nixCraft is a single (one man) indie operation and online since 2002. I am a seasoned sysadmin and a trainer for Linux, operating system/Unix shell scripting.
nixCraft is often featured or referenced in news sites, various published books that you can find on Google books and online discussion forums, social media such as Slashdot, HN, Reddit etc. I also run a popular Twitter account called @nixCraft. Popular book UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook mentioned @nixCraft Twitter handle too:
Pretty much any Linux/Unix beginner or intermediate searching for Linux help will end up on my blog. My blog goes back to 2002, and it was dark times before Stackoverflow was a thing for finding a solution for programming and Linux topics. Hence, comic dedicated to me too 😉
nixCraft Mission
My mission is simple. I research and post cutting edge topics related to various open source software and programming topics:
- Enterprise Linux distributions.
- Traditional Unix operating systems like OpenBSD/AIX/HP-UX etc.
- Cloud computing.
- Building scalable and high availability infrastructure.
- Networking/DNS/Web/Proxy/office servers.
- Security and firewalls.
- Automation and infrastructure deployment.
- Desktop Linux.
- Apple OS X Unix operating systems.
- Best practices for the sysadmin.
My tutorials are easy to follow and include plenty of screenshots/screencasts. While you are here, you may want to visit my Linux / UNIX tutorials collections.
