A British man recently reported online that he purchased an iPhone 15 Pro Max on Apple’s official website, but received an Android copycat phone.
The man’s name is Ed, from Surrey, England, and his nickname on Reddit is theEdmard. He claimed that he ordered the iPhone on Apple’s official website and had formal logistics tracking and confirmation emails from Apple and DPD Express.
But when he received the package, he noticed something was wrong. Although the phone looked like the titanium iPhone 15 Pro Max he ordered, it had 256GB of memory, and the packaging looked regular. But upon closer inspection, he discovered it was actually an Android phone, running a UI that mimicked Apple’s iOS user interface.
There are many details that reveal that this is not the phone he ordered: this phone has a screen protector (Apple’s iPhones never come with a protective film), and there is an obvious “chin” at the bottom of the screen (Apple’s iPhones in recent years have relatively narrow borders) Evenly), and it comes with apps like Facebook, YouTube and TikTok pre-installed, something Apple never does.
Ed, chief operating officer of cloud software provider AtWrk, said he contacted Apple to find out exactly what happened but has yet to hear back from them.
Foreign media Mashable contacted Ed and he said that he was sure that the phone was purchased directly from Apple’s official website because his order number was consistent with the one in Apple’s database, and the order confirmation page he received looked authentic. Ed also said that Apple has been “very cooperative” so far, although the issue has not been resolved.
Naijatechnews  noticed that Ed may not be the only victim of this scam. Recently, some netizens on TikTok reported a similar thing, using an Android phone to pretend to be an Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max ordered through formal channels.
