Apple today announced its financial report for the fourth fiscal quarter of fiscal year 2023 (Q3 2023), in which iPad business revenue was US$6.4 billion, compared with US$7.2 billion in the same period last year, a decrease of 11% %.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a subsequent conference call that with no new iPad products launched in 2023, revenue from the product is expected to “decelerate significantly” next quarter.
Cook said that although iPad business revenue fell by 11% year-on-year, the iPad still set the “gold standard” for tablet computers.
Cook said that due to tight supply chains in 2022, a lot of pent-up demand was released and satisfied in the third quarter of last year, so comparisons of various sales data this year will be “ugly.”
Cook admitted that Apple did not launch any new iPad products this year, and almost confirmed that Apple will not launch a new iPad in November or December.
Naijatechnews Excerpt from Cook’s speech:
We expect year-over-year revenue performance for iPad and Wearables, Home and Accessories to slow significantly from Q3 as we adjust the timing of product launches.
On iPad, we launched the new iPad Pro and the 10th generation iPad in the fourth quarter of last year.
Apple’s latest iPad products are the M2 iPad Pro and iPad 10 released in October 2022; the iPad Air 5 will be released in March 2022; in addition, the iPad mini has not been updated since September 2021.
