Foreign media Windows Latest reported that in April this year, Microsoft confirmed that it plans to launch a 64-bit desktop version of OneDrive to improve the overall Windows 10 experience. According to the information released by the management center, the general availability of OneDrive 64-bit has been postponed to mid-April, and the promotion is now expected to be completed in mid-May (later this week).
The new version of OneDrive is designed for all users with school, home, and business accounts, and it will complement the existing 32-bit version. If you have a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version of Windows, you can continue to use the existing OneDrive program, which is currently in 32-bit format.
However, if you plan to use large files, if you want to transfer a large number of files, and you have a computer running a 64-bit version of Windows 10, the brand new OneDrive client should be your first choice. This is because Windows 10 computers with 64-bit processors have more resources and can afford additional processing power.
Therefore, 64-bit applications can also perform better and improve the overall synchronization process.
Naijatechnews is informed that OneDrive is built into Windows 10, and Microsoft has confirmed that if you meet the requirements, it will silently update the application to 64-bit. All functions are the same as in 32-bit installation.
You can verify the configuration of the device at any time by going to Settings> System> About. Under “Device Specifications”, look for the system type and confirm whether the processor is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Once upgraded, the OneDrive desktop version will be able to perform better on supported systems and get more resources, which should speed up the backup and synchronization process, especially when you have a large number of files.
According to the roadmap, OneDrive for Android will also be upgraded this month. For example, users can now move the PDF by entering the page number in the skip to next page.
In addition to OneDrive, other Microsoft 365 products such as Microsoft Teams will also be updated. For example, Microsoft is expanding the scope of Teams’ new PowerPoint Live integration to include MacOS.
