Microsoft is developing a new feature for its flagship product SwiftKey mobile keyboard app, which will change the way the clipboard content is copied and pasted on Windows 10.
With the Windows 10 October 2018 update, Microsoft has added “Cloud Clipboard” support to the Windows 10 system.
The cloud clipboard can be accessed using the Win+V keyboard shortcut, which provides a history of text and images copied by the user . It also allows users to pin frequently used content and synchronize them on the user’s Windows device.
The text, pictures, and HTML code copied in this clipboard history will be shared among all Windows devices that are logged in to the same Microsoft account. After two years of waiting, the same experience will also appear on mobile phones equipped with Microsoft SwiftKey keyboard.
In the beta version of the SwiftKey Keyboard for Android, Microsoft is currently testing a new option called “Synchronize Clipboard History to the Cloud”.
“Copy and paste text from your other devices. When this feature is turned on, Microsoft will receive your clipboard data for synchronization on your Windows device.” The description of the feature reads.
It is worth mentioning that Microsoft originally started to provide cloud clipboard support for Android in 2018, and suspended development last year, but it seems that the company has finally started to work again.
After Cloud Clipboard supports SwiftKey, users can copy a sentence on an Android phone and access it in the clipboard history of Windows 10. Similarly, users can also synchronize the Windows clipboard to SwiftKey and access the clipboard on Android devices.
Naijatechnews understands that SwiftKey also has a cloud clipboard history UI built into the clipboard page, and users can access it by clicking the clipboard button in the toolbar.
It is worth noting that the “Your Phone” application of Microsoft Windows 10 already supports cross-device copy and paste, but currently this feature is only for some Samsung phones.
