Today, Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingchi released a report stating that fierce price competition for Mini LED chips will begin in 2021.
The survey pointed out that San’an Optoelectronics has developed Apple’s mini LED chips in the PRQ (post ramp qualifications) stage, which means that the fastest shipment time of San’an Optoelectronics is in the first half of 2021, and the ASP of the chips is expected to be in 2021 and 2022 Decrease about 50% YoY (year-on-year) and 35% YoY respectively. Apple’s mini LED chips will be mass-produced in 4Q20 . However, due to yield issues related to the production process of display module materials, the fourth quarter display shipments have been reduced by 50% to 300,000-400,000.
Naija Tech News understands that the report believes that the mini LED display in the fourth quarter will be used for the new iPad Pro . Jingdian is currently the exclusive supplier of LED dies, and the overall LED die cost is approximately US$75-85 or more. After Sanan Optoelectronics enters the industry chain, it is expected that the cost of Apple’s mini LED die will drop significantly, and will drop by about 50% YoY and 35% YoY in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
The report believes that the fierce price war between Apple and non-Apple mini LED chips will begin in 2021. On the non-Apple side, taking BOE’s TV mini LED display as an example, it is expected that some high-end TVs will begin to adopt BOE’s mini LED display to replace OLED display. The key is that the cost of BOE’s mini LED display has dropped significantly.
