On August 12th, Amazon today released the “From New Business Form to New Normal State-2020 China Export Cross-border E-commerce Trend Report”, combing the development trend of China’s export cross-border e-commerce industry and sellers in the past five years.
Cindy Tai, Amazon Global Vice President and Head of Amazon Global Store Asia Pacific, said: “The Chinese seller community has continued to grow in the past five years and has become one of the important forces in providing high-quality products to consumers around the world. Export cross-border e-commerce is becoming An important support force for China’s foreign trade, and it is changing from a’new format’ in foreign trade to a’new normal’ in foreign trade.”
The report shows that in the past five years, global cross-border e-commerce has developed rapidly. The epidemic has prompted global consumer trends to shift from offline to online, and the development opportunities and challenges of the cross-border e-commerce industry coexist.
Trend 1: Sellers are more diverse in terms of location and type. The geographical distribution of sellers is increasingly widespread, extending from the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta to the inland, and the number of sellers in the Haixi Economic Zone, Central and Northern Regions has grown rapidly. Among them, the Yangtze River Delta region, as a gathering place for my country’s traditional manufacturing industry, has experienced the fastest growth in sellers in the past five years, with a 9-fold increase in the number of sellers.
Trend 2: Accelerating global layout. Sellers have accelerated their international expansion and are constantly seeking diversified business opportunities. Nearly 60% of sellers have operated two or more Amazon overseas sites at the same time, and 82% of sellers plan to expand new sites on the existing basis. In the process of accelerating global deployment, we will not only consider mature sites such as the United States and Europe, but also actively deploy emerging sites in the Middle East, Australia, and Singapore.
Trend 3: Increased brand awareness. As the export cross-border e-commerce industry gradually shifts to “intensive cultivation”, sellers pay more attention to the long-term development of the business and continue to invest in product development, brand registration and construction, and brand protection. According to Amazon data, between 2017 and 2019, the number of Chinese sellers who completed the Brand Registry on Amazon increased by as much as 10 times.
Trend 4: Accelerate product innovation. As global consumer demands become more diversified and refined, Chinese sellers continue to enrich their selections and gradually shift from standardized products to higher-value, more diverse and more personalized products.
Trend 5: Upgrade of responsiveness. In the past five years, sellers have continuously upgraded their ability to respond quickly to changes in the overseas environment and consumer demand, able to quickly identify global consumer trends and flexibly adjust product selection strategies, fully demonstrating the advantages of a flexible supply chain. During the epidemic, Chinese sellers provided global consumers with high-quality epidemic prevention materials and daily necessities in a timely manner.
